Disability Services

The Art Institute of Seattle offers academic adjustments/auxiliary aids and support services to students with disabilities. The Disability Services Office assists qualified students with disabilities in identifying reasonable and appropriate academic adjustments/auxiliary aids and in supporting their success at The Art Institute of Seattle.

The Art Institute of Seattle is committed to providing qualified students with a disability an equal opportunity to access the benefits, rights and privileges of college services, programs and activities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and State of Washington laws.

Students who believe they are in need of accommodations should contact the Disability Services office. If you have a concern or complaint in this regard, please contact the Dean of Student Affairs, North Campus, 5th floor, or call 206-239-2290. Complaints will be handled in accordance with the school's Student Grievance Procedure for Internal Complaints of Discrimination and Harassment.

Eligibility
You may be eligible to receive academic adjustments/auxiliary aids if you have a physical, mental or sensory impairment that substantially limits one or more of your major life activities.

Qualifying for Services

  • Each student eligible for academic adjustments/auxiliary aids and/or services has certain responsibilities to fulfill.
  • Students who have a disability and are in need of academic adjustments/auxiliary aids should contact the Disability Services Office in order to seek assistance from the college.
  • Present formal written documentation of your disability and the functional limitations resulting from it. Documentation means a report based on an evaluation that was made - usually within the last three years - by a qualified professional. Depending on your disability, professional documentation may be presented from a medical doctor, school psychologist, psychologist, psychiatrist, or other professional diagnostician. Click here for documentation guidelines, or you may obtain a copy from the Disability Services Office. In order to ensure that your desired class start date and your accommodation needs are met, please notify the Disability Services Office as early as possible.
  • Make an appointment with the Director of Disability Services as soon as possible.

Available Services
Services and academic adjustments/auxiliary aids are provided on an individually determined basis. Tutorial assistance and counseling are available to all enrolled students. For more information please contact the Director of Disability Services.
