"RESTAURANT WARS" FOUR TEAMS, FOUR NIGHTS, FOUR MENUS, AND ONLY TWO WINNING TEAMS

(TAMPA, Sept. 10, 2009) - The Tutored Chef of The International Culinary School invites the public to participate in RESTAURANT WARS! Chefs, foodies and culinary competition fanatics are welcomed be a part of these exciting lunch and dinner competition events at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Tampa located at 4401 N. Himes Ave. (The corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Himes Ave.).
The Tutored Chef is the in-house, student-operated restaurant at The International Culinary School. The A la Carte classes run The Tutored Chef to serve the public two times a week for both lunch and dinner. Students gain real-world experience during this class by operating the restaurant from the back of the house, to the front of the house. This class just became more interesting when the instructors announced a new twist to the course syllabi: RESTAURANT WARS competitions.
Typically, the class serves the public from a designated menu, but this time, it’s the students’ call. “It’s their turn to create and control the experience for our customers. They’re calling the shots and competing for the best menu concept, presentation, taste, etc.” said Chef Castro, Director of the Culinary Department at The Art Institute of Tampa.
Four teams, four nights, four menus, and only two winning teams:
- The lunch competition dates and times are Sept. 10 & 11 from 11:30 to 1pm.
- The dinner competition dates and times are Sept. 17 & 18 from 7pm to 9pm
One class will divide into two teams for two days of the lunch competition. On one day, one team will be the chefs and the other team will steward and serve the guests. The groups will then switch roles for the following day of the competition. Only one team will be declared the winning team of the RESTAURANT WARS lunch competition. Then, the other class will also divide into two teams for two days of the dinner competition with only one winning team.
All menus consist of an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. There are 30 dinner guest spaces per competition day, and spaces are filling up quickly. The guests will judge the courses on presentation and taste. The price to participate as a guest is $15.95 per person, plus tax. Tips are donated to the culinary scholarship fund.
