The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Form
The FAFSA form is a standard document used to determine your eligibility for Federal and some state aid, including:

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant)
  • Federal Stafford Loan
  • State Grants

Tips for filling out the FAFSA
At the Art Institute of Tampa, we would prefer for you to come in and meet with one of our Admissions Coordinators to fill this form out, but if you would like to do it at home online you can do that also. The website is www.fafsa.ed.gov. Our school code is 008878 (Which will show up as the Miami International University of Art and Design).

If you do decide to apply on-line you will need a pin number in order to process your FAFSA quickly. You need to apply for the pin online, which can take up to three days to receive, so please apply today. If you are considered a dependent student, one of your parents would need to apply for a pin as well. In order to apply for a pin, please visit www.pin.ed.gov and follow the online instructions. It is a simple process and the pin will be sent to you via email, so please make sure to provide them with an accurate email address that you use frequently. If you experience any difficulties while requesting your FAFSA pin online, please contact FAFSA at 800-433-3243.

Follow the instructions carefully. Give yourself time and quiet. Find a place and time to complete the form without interruption. Get organized. Gather your personal and family financial records. Here's a checklist of records you may need:

  • Last year's federal tax returns forms 1040/1040A/1040EZ and W2 forms
    • If you haven't filed a return yet, try to do that before you apply for financial aid.
    • If you can't find last year's return, call the IRS at 1-800-829-0922, or try to contact the place where you completed your return.
    • It is important to keep a copy of your tax return because you may be asked to provide it to the Student Financial Services office later.
  • Information relating to income including wages, dividends, Social Security benefits, welfare payments, alimony or child support, Veterans Administration benefits, and disability benefits.

Involve other family members who must provide information. Your parent(s) will need to complete the parent section of the form if you are classified as a "dependent" student for Federal Financial Aid purposes. Remember to have your pin in order to sign your FAFSA electronically. It is also very important to print out all copies of the FAFSA and the confirmation page you receive after everything is submitted.

If you need assistance with the form, feel free to contact an Admissions Coordinator at 866-703-3277, ext 5205 or ext 5209.
