Program Overview

The Art Institute of Tampa offers a Digital Photography bachelor’s degree program for creative, imaginative students. As they pursue a Digital Photography degree, students can learn technical and design skills. After obtaining a Digital Photography degree and entering the industry, graduates may have an opportunity to work with a diverse subject matter and many types of people. So the Digital Photography degree program encourages students to work as teams. Digital Photography degree students are also taught communication and business skills. The learning in the Digital Photography degree program is hands on; students use industry-related equipment and technology. Program Description
The Digital Photography program is designed to offer students the opportunity to cultivate their photographic skills through the research, development, and execution of an extensive body of photographic work. Students will develop strong technical and design skills necessary in the implementation of their chosen medium. Their study will also incorporate critical theory as it relates to their field by learning to identify and consider issues in contemporary photography. This will encourage the ability to critically analyze and interpret contemporary photographs as well as improve the conceptual development required to make competent images.

The Digital Photography Curriculum begins with coursework in the fundamentals of 2-D design, the digit SLR camera, studio lighting, digital darkroom techniques, and printing output. These basic skill-sets are fostered throughout the program into in-depth competencies. The curriculum continues with additional coursework in the history of photography both as an art and as a commercial trade.

Creative thinking an conceptual development are fostered in collaboration with the technical courses; however, specific classes such as creative concepts, photo criticism, and portfolio exploration will concentrate on theoretic issues related to contemporary photography. Classes such as web design and video editing are incorporated into the curriculum to broaden the student’s skill-set in order to facilitate a competitive edgein the job market. As the student advances within the program, the curriculum will focus on developing acompetent and competitive portfolio for the student’s target photographic market.
