Carving Club [Click to download flyer]
The mission of the carving club at the Art Institute of Tucson is to train students in the art of carving fruits and vegetables. In the rapidly expanding culinary world, food presentation is becoming more and more valuable. The ability to carve appealing designs from fruits and vegetables will be highly valued as our students graduate into the professional world. It is a skill equally valuable to students studying culinary arts or bakery and pastry arts.
At the club meetings, we will practice the various carving techniques on fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers, carrots, oranges, and melons, and practice a variety of shapes and patterns including flowers, rosettes, and flourishes. Emphasis will be placed on repeated practice in order to master these techniques. In addition, examples of how to use the various carved fruits and vegetables will be provided to students
Carving Club welcomes all students in good standing with the school and will not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, national origin, religion, disability, sexual preference, or gender identity. While we target students of culinary arts and bakery and pastry arts, all students are welcome however all students must respect the dress code of the kitchen and come to meetings in a chef’s coat, hat, neckerchief, apron, and appropriate pants and shoes and members must also provide their own tools.
It is important to remember that carving club is to be taken as a serious commitment so we encourage only students who are serious and dedicated to learning the art of carving fruits and vegetables to join.
