This weekend, Gianluca Russo impressed the judges with his cool in a very hot kitchen. Russo took the top prize at The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef 2007 Local
Students prepared a seafood appetizer and chicken entree. They had 90 minutes to prepare their dishes, and were judged on taste, cleanliness, mise en place (organization, taste and presentation). Thanks to his win, Russo will join 22 other high school seniors that will travel on to Dallas, Texas. In all, The Art Institutes will award over $250,000 in tuition scholarships.
According to Don Guthro, Academic Director at The Art Institute of Vancouver – Dubrulle Culinary Arts, the turn-out was impressive. “We had an exceptional group of competitors here today – they all did extremely well, but we can only send one to Dallas, and Russo demonstrated he has the talent and focus to succeed in the national event.”
