Best Teen Chef
Create a stir with your culinary talent by entering the Best Teen Chef Culinary Scholarship Competition. You could win a full or partial tuition scholarship.
The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef Culinary Scholarship Competition puts students' cooking skills to the test. The three-part competition consists of the following stages:
- The preliminary competition
- The local cook-off competition
- The national cook-off competition
Preliminary Competition Eligibility
Participants must be high school seniors with a minimum 2.0 cumulative Grade Point Average. Submit an application to The Art Institute you wish to attend that offers a Culinary Arts program.
Preliminary Competition Entry Requirements
Submit a notebook containing the following:
- A menu with descriptions for a two-course meal, including an appetizer, soup or salad, and a main course with sauce, garnish, vegetable, and
starch;
- A detailed recipe and directions for each course.
- Write and submit a paragraph on why you would like to be a culinary professional, and identify who inspires you and why.
- Submit a current high school transcript.
The Local Cook-off Competition
A minimum of 10 semi-finalists from each participating Art Institutes school will be chosen to compete in regional cook-offs which will take place at each Art Institutes location. With the assistance of an assigned student helper, semi-finalists will prepare a menu issued in advance by The Art Institutes. A panel of professional chefs and faculty will judge the prepared food and select a winner. The first-place winner from each participating Art Institute will advance to The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef Culinary Scholarship Competition. All decisions by the judges are final and non-disputable.
The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef Culinary Scholarship Competition
The first-place local winner from each participating school within The Art Institutes system, along with one parent or legal guardian, will be flown to the chosen city of the competition. For the event, contestants will prepare a menu issued in advance by The Art Institutes. A panel of professional chefs and Certified Master Chefs will serve as judges for the competition. All decisions by the judges are final and non-disputable.
The first-, second-, and third-place winners each will receive full-tuition scholarships worth more than $30,000. The fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place winners each will be awarded a half-tuition scholarship worth more than $15,000. The seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-place winners each will be awarded a quarter-tuition scholarship worth more than $7,500. Each remaining national candidate will be awarded a $2,000 tuition scholarship. All decisions will be final.
All tuition scholarships must be used at The Art Institute in which you represent and apply, and is non-transferable. Upon accepting the scholarship, the student agrees to begin his/her culinary arts studies in the summer or fall quarter immediately following the national cook-off.
National Poster Design
The Art Institutes & Americas for the Arts Poster Design Competition tests the graphic design capabilites of high school seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in design. Competition winners receive tuition scholarships at The Art Institutes location they have chosen to attend.
The first-place national winner, will receive a $25,000 scholarship, and all local competition winners' work will be used in a promotional calendar for Americans for the Arts, to be distributed to high schools across North America. Americans for the Arts will create an online gallery of all scholarship winning artwork on its Web site. In addition to the online gallery, the first-place national winner's poster will be used in national marketing materials for Americans for the Arts.
