Questions About Housing

Who will be my roommate?

As much as possible, roommates are assigned based on the common interests and habits listed on the housing application.

What about utilities?

The cost of electricity, water, internet, basic cable and trash pick-up are included in the overall fees for housing.

Is there security in housing?

Yes. Student resident assistants live among students in housing and are available 24 hours a day. The housing property also has a private security company available to residents 24 hours per day. All main entrances are secured electronically and all guests must be buzzed in by residents.

Is parking available?

Yes. Parking is available on the housing site free of charge. Free parking is available at several locations around campus.

What furnishings are provided?

Each apartment is furnished with beds, dressers, a sofa and lounge chairs, dining table and chairs, refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer.

How many students live in each apartment?

Each 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom apartment unit houses 4 students.

Can I receive accommodations for my disability in student housing?

If you are a student who has a document disability, as defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, you may be eligible to receive accommodations in housing. You should first apply to be accepted into The Art Institute of Virginia Beach and apply for college housing. Once you have received housing confirmation, notify the disabilities services coordinator of your request for accommodations.

What if I don’t drive?

College sponsored housing in within walking distance of the campus. The housing location provides you access to shopping, restaurants, and entertainment.

Are there facilities for washing and drying my clothes?
Yes. A washer and dryer are available in each apartment unit.

May I bring my own computer?
Yes, you can. Each apartment is furnished with wireless internet connection for your use.

May I have guess in my apartment?
Guests are welcome to visit during daily visiting hours of 10 am to 10 pm as long as they don’t disturb the other students in the apartment.

Where can I pick up my mail?

Mailboxes are located on the third floor of the apartment property.

What should I bring?
Along with your personal items, you may want to bring linens kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies, an alarm clock, and stereo/radio. It is a good idea to contact your prospective roommate to determine what else is needed.

What does it cost to live in housing?
The 2010-2011 cost for housing id $2400 per quarter or $7200 per academic year. Contracts starting in winter, spring and mid-quarter are also available. Housing rates are subject to change without notice.

Can housing fees be included in my financial aid package?
The cost of Art Institute housing can, in most cases, be included in your financial aid package.

Where is student housing located?
The college-sponsored housing complex for The Art Institute of Virginia Beach is at 4432 Bonney Road in the Pembroke area of Virginia Beach 23462.
