THE ART INSTITUTE OF YORK – PENNSYLVANIA FACULTY EXHIBITING ART AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER IN BALTIMORE
Eighteen members of the faculty at The Art Institute of York – Pennsylvania have been invited to show their artwork at the World Trade Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The exhibit features 46 pieces of original art including paintings, sculpture, and marionettes. The exhibit is being held in the lobby of the 27-story building overlooking Baltimore’s harbor and will run through May 31. The building is open 24 hours a day and visitors may view this exhibit at no charge.
Recently, The Art Institute of York – Pennsylvania was granted approval from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education to offer Bachelor’s of Science Degrees in Fashion & Retail Management, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Media Arts & Animation, and Web Design & Interactive Media, as well as Associate’s of Science Degrees in Graphic Design and Kitchen & Bath Design. Those programs will begin on August 20, 2009.
The Art Institute of York – Pennsylvania traces its history back to 1952, when the York Academy of Arts was established by local artists to meet the community’s needs for training in the visual arts. Thirty years later the school became part of the Antonelli Institute of Art & Photography group, with its headquarters in Philadelphia. In 1988, the school became Bradley Academy for the Visual Arts and once again became an independent school continuing to provide area employers with well-trained graduates. In 1997, the school moved to its current location, a contemporary 38,000 square foot building in east York. In 2003, the school was acquired by The Art Institutes (www.artinstitutes.edu), a system of over 40 education institutions throughout North America, providing an important source of design, media art, fashion, and culinary arts professionals. In support of that acquisition, the school changed its name to “The Art Institute of York – Pennsylvania” in 2007.
