Back

York, PA - The Art Institute of York – Pennsylvania has received approval from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education to grant Bachelor of Science Degrees to students at the college.  The new Bachelor’s Degree programs, which will begin on August 20, 2009, include Fashion & Retail Management, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Media Arts & Animation, and Web Design & Interactive Media. The college will also offer Associate of Science Degree programs in Graphic Design and Kitchen & Bath Design.

The school’s president, Tim Howard said, “This change has been in the works for several years, and we are very proud that our school is making this important transformation. Many of our staff and faculty have worked diligently to accomplish this important milestone in our school’s five decade history.”

The Art Institute of York – Pennsylvania traces its history back to 1952, when the York Academy of Arts was established by local artists to meet the community’s needs for training in the visual arts. Thirty years later the school became part of the Antonelli Institute of Art & Photography group, with its headquarters in Philadelphia. In 1988, the school became Bradley Academy for the Visual Arts and once again became an independent school continuing to provide area employers with well-trained graduates. In 1997, the school moved to its current location, a contemporary 38,000 square foot building in east York. In 2003, the school was acquired by The Art Institutes (www.artinstitutes.edu), a system of over 40 education institutions throughout North America. In support of that acquisition, the school changed its name to “The Art Institute of York – Pennsylvania" in 2007.
