5 Reasons Why You Should Consider Going Back to School

How do you know it’s the right time to go back to school? The answer is different for everyone, but if any of the five statements below ring true for you, now may be the time to commit to yourself and your future by going back to school to develop your skills and knowledge.

1. You’re not passionate about your current job
Do you wish your side gig was a full-time gig? Maybe you spend your spare time dabbling in the creative arts. If you’ve been thinking about making a change to a field you’re passionate about, trust your gut and go for it. Don’t waste time in a job you don’t enjoy. By going back to school, you can prepare to turn your creativity into a career doing what you love.

2. You want to learn new skills and excel at your company
Perhaps you like the organization you work for and the people you work with, but you wish you could contribute in a different way. Going back to school can help you expand on your existing skills so that you can start making a bigger impact at work. If you tell your manager about your interests and aspirations, they may be able to support you by adjusting your schedule and possibly even providing tuition assistance.

3. You want to stand out from the competition
Do you want to be an award-winning media artist? A nationally recognized chef? The designer behind the next hit video game? By going back to school to earn a creative arts degree, you can learn the industry-specific skills, knowledge, and technology that you need to pursue your goals. Because many creative careers are competitive, a degree can also help you differentiate yourself from the crowd and become more marketable to potential employers.

4. After taking time off from your career, you’re ready to brush up your skills
Life doesn’t always take a clear path, and sometimes we find ourselves far from what we’d imagined our life would be. Know that you’re not alone; many people put their goals on hold for family, financial, or other personal reasons. Whether you’ve completed some college or this will be your first higher education experience, going back to school can help you return to the path you want. Even if you have past experience in the field, college can help you sharpen your skills and ensure that you’re familiar with the latest technology, trends, and tools in your industry.

5. You want to push yourself to be your very best
You should never settle for less than you’re capable of. And if you know you’re capable of more, it’s time to pursue your true potential. At The Art Institutes, you can learn from instructors who are experienced in their fields* and who will both challenge and support you in everything you do. By pursuing your goals, you can also set an example and inspire those around you, your friends and family members, to do the same. Our graduates say that the hard work of going back to school is ultimately worth the reward.
