Challenging. Exciting. Nerve-wracking. This is how 12 Art Institutes designers describe their creative process as they prepare to show their collections at New York Fashion Week. The show will take place on February 16, 2016 at 8:30 pm at Skylight at Moynihan Station—and will stream live, showcasing their work to a global audience. Watch the live broadcast on Tumblr!

The designers, from across The Art Institutes system of schools, were born as far away as Iran, Vietnam, and Haiti. Yet each shares a common bond—a love of fashion and the determination to pull together a collection within a demanding time frame. These creative artists worked under supportive faculty mentors who pushed them to bring dynamic fashion concepts to life.

The designers are both current students and recent graduates—some have experienced New York Fashion Week before. But for many, this is their first trip down the runway.

Each designer is waiting for the applause that comes with unveiling a successful collection—kudos from fashion professionals, celebrities, and family members who have supported them along the way. This event can be a career-defining moment. A chance to transform the way others think about fashion. And the opportunity to associate their names with New York’s most prestigious fashion show.

Read how their hard work, determination, and challenges resulted in runway-ready collections. And get first-hand insight into the creative journeys each took on the path to New York Fashion Week. For one, it was an introspective journey focused on nature. For another, it involved a near-explosion trying out a new garment dying technique.
