Dr. Andrew Burnstine, fashion instructor at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh—Online Programs, was recently featured on WPTV’s segment on the Golden Globes. Burnstine, who goes by “Dr. Fashion,” was particularly impressed by Lady Gaga’s Golden Globe fashion choices. See the full segment by clicking here.
Burnstine has taught fashion marketing and design for over 20 years. Before joining The Art Institutes, he was the chairperson of the fashion marketing and management program at Berkeley College in New York. He also oversaw a university fashion marketing and design program in Florida. He’s taught at New York University, Westchester Community College, SUNY Purchase College, Kent State University, and The Academy of Art University. He currently teaches Fashion Marketing & Management courses online.
Prior to becoming an instructor, Burnstine was a buyer, merchandiser, and executive vice president of Martha Inc., an exclusive women's specialty store chain in New York City and Florida. He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees from New York University.
Burnstine’s love for fashion began when he worked as a professional circus clown with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. His first fashion design was creating his own clown costume. He was honored when fashion designer Bob Mackie made a costume for him to wear while Burnstine entertained children in hospitals and hospices around the country.
