An Interview with Stacy Said, Career Services Advisor

Q: What is Discovery Days?
Discovery Days are days set aside each quarter to focus on Career Development. Program sessions, tours, and collaborations are created to assist students and alumni in connecting with their profession and taking steps within their professional development.

Q: Why do you offer Discovery Days field trips?
Students and alumni regularly state that they appreciate experiences outside of the classroom. Field trips help make it possible for students to confidently access company space, learn about the company's place within their field of study, and experience if they feel the company would be a good culture fit for them professionally.

Q: What is Gensler?
Gensler is widely recognized as the world’s leading collaborative design firm, not just the largest. With more than 3,500 active clients, they work across the global economy. Clients are remarkably diverse—large and small, private and public, for-profit and nonprofit.

Q: Describe three things that you learned on the tour.
One—Gensler has 44 offices throughout the world. The Denver office was one of the founding offices. It is their 3rd location with a staff of 91 professionals including architects, graphic designers, and interior designers.
Two—Gensler has had an enormous impact on the feel and energy of the various districts throughout Denver.
Three—Gensler boasts a large amount of commercial and hospitality projects, but recently has begun multi-functional spaces of mixed-use and retail buildings.

Q: Was the tour worth student time? Why?
Yes! Many Interior Design students have an interest in exploring employment and internship opportunities through Gensler. Students were able to see samples of current and past projects within the greater Denver community and throughout the world. Students were also able to connect with professionals that have a shared interest on their Senior Projects.

Q: What do you want us to know about Gensler?
The tour group was impressed with the facilities of Gensler, from the open work stations, to the furnishings, to the ability of Gensler to open their doors to the community. Gensler has a focus on the community and allows various organizations to hold events in their open spaces and lobby area.
