On Thursday, June 14, The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale hosted its annual commencement ceremony at the Fort Lauderdale War Memorial Auditorium. More than 1,200 family and friends packed the auditorium to celebrate the accomplishments of the newest members of The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale’s alumni community.

Ai Fort Lauderdale Interim President Erika Fleming presided over the ceremony and conferred more than 170 degrees. Graduates recognized at the ceremony include those who completed their degree requirements during the 2017-18 academic school year.

Captain Lee Rosbach, star of BRAVO’s “Below Deck” TV show headlined the event as the ceremony’s guest speaker. Rosbach advised the graduates to continue honing their passion and not be afraid to face resistance in the future.

Rosbach was joined by special guest Dean Trantalis, Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, who offered words of encouragement to the graduates and spoke about Ai Fort Lauderdale students’ history of community service with the Fort Lauderdale and Broward County communities.

Ai Fort Lauderdale student Alessandra Saggese, who earned her Associate of Science in Interior Design, represented the 2018 graduates as the student speaker. Saggese shared how her experiences at Ai Fort Lauderdale transformed her into a strong, passionate designer.

“I cannot deny that on many occasions, trapped under floor plans and perspective drawings, I felt as if the world was slowly eating me, said Saggese. “But focused in those small details that make an interior designer unique, my appetite was truly awakened.”

The 2018 commencement ceremony marks the 49th year that Ai Fort Lauderdale has awarded degrees in the applied and creative arts. For more information about The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale’s academic programs, visit:
