On Monday, October 30, 2017 Holchiline Alcy, a 2017 graduate of The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Design, participated in the “Not My Daughter…find a cure now!” fundraising luncheon for cancer research, dressing four cancer survivors with her unique designs. This is the 5th year a member of Ai Fort Lauderdale has participated in this event, held at the Marriott Heron Bay in Coral Springs, Florida.

Holchiline spoke to an audience of 500 seated guests about her connection to breast cancer, as she lost her mom to cancer when she was six and was raised by her dad and brother. She also had an aunt who passed away from breast cancer last year. She also touched upon her love, and dedication to the fashion field, starting with her education at Ai Fort Lauderdale. Holchiline stated that she’s proud to be a graduate of Ai Fort Lauderdale, a school that gave her the tools she needs to succeed in the fashion industry. She continues to forge ahead in the fashion world, all while coping with the fact that her future may genetically predispose her to cancer.

“Not My Daughter…find a cure now!” bridges the gap between generations to raise breast cancer awareness while contributing to the search for a cure. Founded in South Florida in 2010, the organization was created by a group of local women who were personally affected by breast cancer. Since its inception, “Not My Daughter... find a cure now!” has generously donated 100% of proceeds to breast cancer research-based organizations.
