The Design Honors Group at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale completed illustrations for a children’s book that is now available for purchase. The new book, “Charlie Marlie Learns How to Surf,” was a collaboration between Ai Fort Lauderdale, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, and Waves Surf Academy.

The book was first conceived by Waves Surf Academy to inspire children to overcome the waves of life by having a positive attitude. The book was written by patients at Joe DiMaggio. Ai Fort Lauderdale Design Honors students worked with the children to appropriately illustrate the book.

The book was published by Infinity Publishing with the proceeds going to children’s hospitals throughout the country. The book is available for purchase online at Amazon, eBay, and Barnes & Noble.

The Design Honors group at Ai Fort Lauderdale is made up of current students in Graphic and Web Design, Web Design and Interactive Media, and Advertising program areas. Each semester the group selects nonprofit organizations in Broward County to work with on experiential learning projects that benefit the organizations. Past partners include Jack and Jill’s Children Center, the City of Lauderhill, and Sunrise Pops.
