Game Developer's Conference!
January 3, 2018
You know this is going to be a fun event!
Since 1988, the Game Developers Conference (GDC) has hosted thousands of people interested and working in the game industry. There are seminars with the makers of games you love, tutorials, award shows, a career fair and exhibits showing the newest and most exciting products being developed for the game industry.
Topics include: design, programming, business, marketing, production, team management, visual arts, audio and much more.
The heart of the GDC is the amazing lectures given by industry professionals. An interesting seminar title from last year was, “Killer Portfolio or Portfolio Killer: Part 1, Advice from Industry Artists”. You can’t miss a talk like that!
Some of the seminar titles being offered in March of 2018 are:
-
'Move or Die': Why It's Worth It to Chase Your Tail
-
Art Direction: Escaping Your Comfort Zone
-
Designing Great Interactive Narratives on Mobile
See http://schedule.gdconf.com/ for the developing list.
The Game Developer’s Conference is not cheap! An “All Access Pass” costs $1,949.
Fortunately, there are different ticket tiers that go all the way down to $149.
Meh, you say: it’s too expensive! If you’re interested in working in games though, there really isn’t a better opportunity:
“Learn how to build your career in the game industry at the Game Career Seminar, Friday March 23, 2018. Attend interactive sessions, learn from industry experts, and meet HR reps from leading game companies in this full-day program designed for students and others interested in starting a game development career.”
Luckily, the conference offers a few different ways for students to attend. There is a student price, “GDC also offers a Friday Student Expo Pass for $79 which is available for purchase on–site only on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Moscone Center.“ Also, there is another opportunity titled, “Low Income Pass”.
