AIPAD stands for The Association of International Photography Art Dealers and if you love the photographic arts, I would strongly recommend attending their 38th Annual Exhibition.

Once a year, they gather in New York City for one of the world’s most prestigious and longest running events. This year is no exception and in the beginning of April, over 100 galleries from around the world will present what is considered the best of the best in photo based art, video and new media. The United States, Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico, the Middle East and South America are all represented.

This is a rare opportunity to view museum- quality work from both AIPAD members and new exhibitors, as well as younger galleries, book dealers and publishers. There are also scheduled lectures and talks with artists, curators and collectors. For those looking for possible gallery representation, this is your chance to meet dealers from around the globe and presents unlimited networking potential.

Along with the organized events, there are also impromptu portfolio reviews as well. In fact, when I was starting out, I landed my first New York Gallery as a direct result of a brief conversation with a director on the event floor. It generally takes months of emails, letters, packages and long distance presentations to make any kind of a personal connection. Here, you can jump from booth to booth and gallery to gallery, all in ONE room!

The Photography Show is simply not to be missed and if there is a chance you can swing the trip; it is certainly worth the visit!
