Experiment in the Abstract Gallery Show Zooms in on the Process of Creation
March 20, 2018
Experiment in the Abstract, a new gallery show at The Art Institute of Washington, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta, explores art in the abstract and features work by student Abel First-Quao. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Digital Filmmaking & Video Production.
Students, staff, and faculty attended the opening night reception on February 21 that also featured an artist talk with award-winning filmmaker Kirk Fraser. Experiment in the Abstract Gallery Show was the backdrop for the artist talk to explore films and art. First-Quao’s artwork reflects his strengths and weaknesses as an artist and he talked about his journey of self-discovery as a film student.
Fraser, a known filmmaker in the Washington, DC area, has used his environment to tell stories. His documentaries continue to tell stories of his communities. First-Quao wants to follow the same passion. He wants to tell stories of his native country Ethiopia.
