Chef Daniel Bowers, culinary instructor at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Atlanta, recently appeared on FOX 5 Atlanta to demonstrate how to make an Election Cake.

He explained that Election Cakes are an old American tradition. Some of the earliest cakes were huge, weighing more than 100 pounds and filled with alcohol. The cakes were made by women to encourage men to vote. Families traveled for miles to reach the town centers where they enjoyed a election day as a holiday – visiting friends, dancing, and eating election cake.
