Famed Nashville Artist to Impart his Wisdom on the Next Crop of Nashville Creatives

NASHVILLE, May 9, 2018 – Gordon Kennedy, multi Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer, world-class guitarist and visionary at the forefront of Nashville’s music community, will serve as commencement speaker for the Class of 2018 graduating class of The Art Institute of Tennessee – Nashville, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the James K. Polk Theater in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
110 students from the non-profit school’s programs in the areas of design, media arts, culinary arts and fashion will graduate with their diploma, associate and bachelor’s degrees and join the working ranks of the Nashville creative community.
Kennedy, a Nashville local, became nationally recognized at the 1996 Grammy Awards where he won Song of the Year for Eric Clapton’s No. 1 hit, “Change the World,” which he co-wrote with Wayne Kirkpatrick and Tommy Sims.
Some of his most notable cuts include his Bonnie Raitt singles, “I Can’t Help You Now,” “I Will Not Be Broken,” and "Take My Love With You," his Garth Brooks single, “You Move Me,” which reached No. 2 on the country charts, and his Alison Krauss cut, “Maybe.” Kennedy has also written songs for: Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, Bruce Hornsby, Ricky Skaggs, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Nickel Creek and Peter Frampton.
Gordon has also contributed songs for the following films: Phenomenon (1996), Tin Cup (1996), For the Love of the Game (1999), Almost Famous (2000), Where the Heart Is (2000), The Banger Sisters (2002) and The Fox and the Hound 2 (2006), and others.
