Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines and Cameras
August 24, 2018
The fastest riders on two wheels return to the Steel City for Round 8 of the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship ( http://motoamerica.com) Friday, August 24 – Sunday, August 26.
This will be only the second time that the national level motorcycle road races will be held at Pittsburgh International Race Complex ( http://pittrace.com) in Wampum, Pennsylvania, located about 20 minutes north of Cranberry Township, the first competition being held in 2017.
Championship superbike races often bring with them jaw-dropping vistas as riders duel on highly modified, 200 plus horsepower speed machines to claim the top of the podium, but a MotoAmerica race weekend goes beyond the tarmac, providing an event the whole family can enjoy. From stunt shows to play areas and food trucks, the event caters to all ages.
Among the excitement of activities, it’s easy to overlook the creative work that goes into making the event special. The weekend abounds in graphic design work and pops of color, everywhere. The application of fashion design and industrial design principles can be seen around every corner in race suits and race bikes, respectively.
Culinary professionals hustle to create meals for VIPs, staff and teams. Photographers and videographers are constantly on the hunt to capture the spirit of a race weekend and those moments most memorable.
One such photographer is Tom MacConnell. Before graduating with an Associate of Science in Digital Photography ( https://www.artinstitutes.edu/pittsburgh/academics/film-production/digital-photography-degree-programs ) in the fall of 2017, Tom took to the circuit early each morning with a mission to share a glimpse of MotoAmerica’s story through photographs. The images in this blog were selected from Mr. MacConnell’s three-day shoot. For inquiries, Tom can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
