Make Your Own: International Cuisine in Minutes

This summer, you can enjoy the sunshine and minimize the amount of time you’re spending in the kitchen—all while preparing fun and tasty international cuisine.

Light, fresh Chinese veggie spring rolls, hearty Brazilian brigadeiro fudge balls, zesty Mexican salsa, creamy Turkish hummus, and good old American cheeseburgers round out our internationally-themed recipes that you can make in minutes.

Fresh Veggie Spring Rolls (Chinese)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrot
  • ½ cup sliced green onion
  • ½ cup tofu, cut in ¼” x ¼” x 2” sticks (batonnet)
  • ½ cup bean sprouts
  • ½ cup cilantro, whole leaves
  • Salt & pepper
  • 8-inch square spring roll wrappers

  • Directions

  • Combine all the vegetables in a bowl.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Lay spring roll wrappers on flat surface with the pointed edge toward you.
  • Place 1/8 of the filling in the bottom third of the wrapper.
  • Bring the pointed edge over the filling.
  • Fold in the sides tightly.
  • Dab the top pointed edge with water and roll tightly.
  • Serve with soy sauce.
  • Brigadeiro Fudge Balls (Brazilian)

    Ingredients

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • ¼ cup baking cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, soft
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • Sprinkles, cocoa powder, or coconut

  • Directions

  • Mix condensed milk and cocoa powder until smooth.
  • Stir in butter.
  • Cook mixture over medium-heat, stirring constantly until thick. (5-8 min).
  • Mix in vanilla and spread mixture onto greased plate. Let cool.
  • Roll ½ tablespoons of mixture into balls.
  • Coat in sprinkles, cocoa powder, or coconut
  • Salsa (Mexican)

    Ingredients

  • 6 plum tomatoes, small diced
  • ½ red onion, small diced
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 3 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • ½ jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
  • ½ lime, juiced
  • Salt and pepper
  • Tortilla Chips

  • Directions

  • Stir all ingredients together in a bowl.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Refrigerate 3 hours
  • Serve with tortilla chips
  • Cheeseburger Sliders (American)

    Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground sirloin
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 pack Kings Hawaiian dinner rolls
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • Toppings: mustard, ketchup, pickle chips

  • Directions

  • Combine beef, salt, black pepper, & Worcestershire Sauce in a bowl. Mix well with out squeezing the meat, as it will make it tough.
  • Roll into small patties.
  • Brown patties on a hot skillet.
  • Melt cheese slices on top of patties.
  • Remove and drain on paper towel.
  • Assemble with buns and toppings.
  • Hummus (Turkish)

    Ingredients

  • 1 can chickpeas (also called garbanzo beans)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Pita bread, cut into triangles

  • Directions
  • Blend ingredients in food processor or bullet.
  • Add extra chickpea liquid into the mixture for desired consistency.
  • Serve with Pita bread.
  • Blini (Russian)

    Ingredients

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 2½ cups milk
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ c pie filling of your choice
  • Whipped cream or Confectioner’s sugar(optional)

  • Directions

  • Whisk together eggs, sugar, and salt.
  • Sift the flour into the bowl.
  • Stir in milk.
  • Mix until smooth.
  • Heat a lightly-oiled skillet over medium heat.
  • Pour 2 tbsp of batter into the pan, spread in a thin circle
  • Cook each side for 1 minute, until lightly browned. Cool slightly
  • Fill each blini with 1tbsp pie filling and fold like a burrito.
  • Top with Whipped cream or Confectioners’ sugar.
