Portland Student to Premiere Film Patriots, Featuring Veterans
October 21, 2016
Joshua Giurlani, who is working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Film & Video Production at The Art Institute of Portland, recently visited Camas, Washington to shoot part of his short film Patriots. The movie features veterans and works to dispel common misconceptions that people might have about being in combat.
“This topic has been addressed in many documentaries, but rarely in a narrative film, which limits its viewing by civilian audiences,” Giurlani says. "This film will be the culmination of four years of academic investment, and I want to make a piece that is worth what I've invested by telling an important and meaningful story. Patriots is an exploration into the mindset of the modern soldier, as well as the hardships faced by men and women in this profession, both abroad and when they return home. [These individuals] deal with the less understood struggles that occur when the shooting stops. I want to tell this story for the men and women who have and are serving, and to give the average person insight into this world that many may only see in documentary films, if at all".
Patriots will premiere December 17, 2016 at Cinema 21 in Portland, 16 NW 21st Ave, Portland, Oregon 97209.
