Ai Washington’s CARE Program Supports Ronald McDonald House Red Shoe 5K
June 19, 2018
The Spring Quarter Art Direction class re-designed the t-shirts wore by runners for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC (RMHCDC) 8th annual Red Shoe 5K, the chapter’s signature fundraiser. This family-friendly event includes activities for serious runners, casual joggers or leisure walkers including a 5K walk/run and Kids’ Fun Run.
In partnership with the Community Arts Resource Exchange Program (C.A.R.E.), the Ronald McDonald House’ Fairfax, VA location became a client of the Art Director’s class and in four weeks as they worked together as a team to create a new design that would be attractive. The annual event helps raise money to help families with sick children.
The C.A.R.E Program provides students with opportunities to apply their talents to projects that support the needs of the community, exposing them to the value and reward of charitable giving and, at the same time, advancing their educational progress and career goals.
Ronald McDonald Houses provide a ‘home away from home’ that allow families to stay near their sick children and be an active part of their medical team at little or no cost. Ronald McDonald Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal, or where they will lay their head at night to rest. The Ronald McDonald House Program falls under the overall mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC to ease the hardship of children’s illness on families through programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children.
“The Red Shoe 5K is all about supporting our families,” said Julie Lowe, Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, RMHCDC. “We encourage everyone in the community to come out and enjoy an exciting and uplifting atmosphere, music, games for the kids, and much more!”
