The Art Institute Of Fort Worth Showcases Paintings By Ron Tomlinson, Zack Hawkins
February 12, 2010
The Art Institute of Fort Worth is hosting its first gallery show, featuring the work of local artists Ron Tomlinson and Zack Hawkins, from February 5 through March 12, 2010. The public is invited to a reception with the artists Friday, February 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the new Art Institutes school, located just off of I-30, at 7000 Calmont Avenue in Fort Worth.
"We are pleased to be able to showcase the artwork of such remarkable local artists as Ron Tomlinson and Zack Taylor," said Chad Williams, The Art Institute of Fort Worth's campus director. The student-mentor relationship of Tomlinson and Taylor echoes the values of The Art Institute itself. For many years, Tomlinson has served as mentor to Hawkins. Similarities in their work hint at their close working and personal relationship. In addition to serving as mentor to Hawkins, Tomlinson has also guided several other young local artists, one of whom recently opened a gallery near San Diego, California and invited Tomlinson to be a featured artist in an early exhibition. Because of his passion for teaching and the positive impact he has made on his students, Tomlinson was named "Distinguished Texas Artist" in 2008 by the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.
In addition to demonstrating the value of teaching by displaying the works of an educator and his protégé, The Art Institute of Fort Worth is conveying its support for the greater Fort Worth community with this show, Williams said.
