Dr. Julianne Attman and Cindy Bainbridge, fashion instructors at The Art Institute of Colorado, have been chosen to present at the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Annual Conference in November. Attman and Bainbridge submitted their abstract, Armed and Delivered: Fashion Students Redesign Local Police Uniforms in Special Topics Design Studio, to ITAA, and it was selected for both presentation and publication.

Their abstract examines a class project where fashion students worked with the local police department to design uniforms that took into consideration not only safety and cost, but also the officers’ comfort and appearance. The students presented their designs to police department representatives, and the officers selected the designs they liked the best. From there, the students created prototypes, which were presented to police officers and uniform manufacturing representatives. The police department representatives plan on submitting the technical specifications and prototypes to the entire department and the City Council for consideration.
