Melissa Grunow, Full time Faculty, English at The Art Institute of Michigan—Troy,* has published her first book.

Realizing River City was published by Tumbleweed Books on February 14, 2016.  This memoir explores how, despite the troubles we may face, there is hope in the way we continually risk ourselves in search for the life we want to live. It's a story about loss, love, compassion, and finally redemption.

To celebrate the book’s release, Melissa is collaborating with Barnes & Noble and the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority’s Alpha Psi chapter to host a Launch Party at Bookfair at 7 p.m. April 22, at Barnes & Noble, 2800 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307.

The celebration will include a reading, meet-and-greet, and book signing. A percentage of all in-store and online sales during the Bookfair event will be donated to the Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation, which provides scholarships and financial support for active sisters and alumnae throughout the United States.

An award-winning writer and Pushcart Prize nominee, Melissa’s work has appeared in Creative Nonfiction, River Teeth, Yemassee, New Plains Review, Blue Lyra Review, and Limestone, among many others. She is also a live storyteller who regularly competes in NPR's Moth StorySLAM and is a Metro Detroit 2016 Listen to Your Mother cast member. She has a Master of Fine Arts in creative nonfiction from National University and a Master of Arts in English from New Mexico State University.
