The Art Institute of Washington Partners with Southwest Business Improvement District
August 10, 2016
The Art Institute of Washington, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta, recently launched a partnership with the Southwest Business Improvement District (SW BID). The organization is the 10th and newest BID in Washington, DC. The partnership will allow graphic design and photography students to create informational graphics, logos, and graphics for newsletters as well as photographic images of the landscape of southwest D.C. The concept is titled “Live, Work, Play.”
BIDs are funded by a property assessment levied on property owners in order to provide services such as cleaning, hospitality, marketing, beautification, planning, safety, event organizing, and programming. The boundaries for this BID are Independence Avenue SW, to the north, 15th Street SW and the Washington Channel, to the west, M Street SW to the south, and South Capitol Street SW, to the east. This geography covers a diverse area, including the federal enclave around L’Enfant Plaza, the residential communities north of M Street SW, Waterfront Station, Arena Stage, and the Wharf development.
Once the partnership is complete, an unveiling event will take place. Local businesses and the community will be invited to attend.
