Activist and Restaurateur, Andy Shallal to Deliver The Art Institute of Washington and Washington-Dulles Commencement Address, Tuesday, June 20, 3:00pm at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.

Anas “Andy” Shallal—founder of Busboys and Poets, a restaurant, bookstore and gathering spot where people can discuss issues of social justice—will address graduates at the commencement ceremony of The Art Institute of Washington and Washington-Dulles, branches of The Art Institute of Atlanta, on Tuesday, June 20, at 3p.m. Shallal will draw on his years of experience as an activist and sustainable businessman. Busboys and Poets has been recognized locally and nationally for being at the forefront of environmental stewardship, being one of the first businesses in Washington DC to be 100% wind powered.
The Iraqi-American artist opened the Busboys and Poets flagship location at 14th and V Streets, NW (Washington, DC) and is now located in six distinctive neighborhoods in the Washington Metropolitan area and is a community resource for artists, activists, writers, thinkers and dreamers.
There will be approximately 150 graduates in the 2017 Art Institute of Washington and The Art Institute of Washington—Dulles commencement ceremony from all four areas of study that we offer—Culinary, Design, Media Arts, and Fashion. The ceremony is open to the general public from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
