IIDA GEORGIA STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION
Nicolas George | Sustainable Design Winner
The Art Institute of Atlanta

The IIDA Georgia Student Competition and Scholarship Program recognizes and honors the design excellence that IIDA student members bring forth to the profession of interior design. Furthermore, the student competition and scholarship program pays homage to the various visual and written skills that students have acquired while in academia that will allow them to be better prepared to be future interior design professionals.

All scholarship awards are offered to IIDA student members pursuing a degree in interior design at a college or university within the IIDA Georgia chapter.  In order to apply, students must be enrolled in an interior design program. The projects submitted have to have been completed during the 2016 school year. Students must have GPA of 3.0 or above in the interior design program and they must be a current IIDA student member in good standing or a student with IIDA student membership pending at the time student entry application is submitted.

Students may enter one or more of the three award categories which include Sustainability, Social Relevance in Design and Innovation in Design.  The students are judged based on a criteria of written and visual presentation skills.  A panel of judges composed of two interior design professional IIDA members and one Industry Member.  One cash scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to the top placed student in each of the three categories.

This year, the Sustainable Design award went to our very own Nicholas George for his ability to address the principles and guidelines of sustainable design, which safeguard Society's limited natural resources and conserve energy. Nick’s design project followed the principles of LEED and/or Green Globes certification. His commercial design submission was completed under the instruction of Professor Desia Lanae Smith at the Art Institute of Atlanta.

Each year the IIDA Georgia Chapter proudly hosts the bob (Best of the Best) Forum Design Awards. The bob Forum Design Awards is the highest honor that IIDA Georgia can bestow in recognition of design excellence and promotion of creativity that strives to continuously push boundaries and exceed expectations.  Nick was recognized and presented the IIDA Georgia Student Competition award for Sustainable Design at the bob Forum Design Awards with the support of his professor and fellow students Ashley Malone, Nancy Felton, Lydia Kimethe, and Miguel Leon-Avila.
