Students and Graduate of The Art Institutes Premiere Films at the Prestigious Festival de Cannes

PITTSBURGH, PA, May 16, 2016 – A passion for storytelling and the desire to make a mark in the world of cinema has taken two students and a graduate of The Art Institutes system of schools from aspiring filmmakers to the international debut of their work at the prestigious Festival de Cannes this week.
Jillian Kibler and Tim Collins, current students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program at The Art Institute of Atlanta, and Derick Crucius, a 2012 graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production program from The Art Institute of Philadelphia, had films selected for the Short Film Corner at the festival in Cannes, France.
For Kibler and Collins, the path to Cannes came in the form of “Kiss of Death,” a short film whose concept they came up with while working on a final school project together. “Kiss of Death” is a narrative short that centers on a couple’s plan to leave town by sundown, but takes an unexpected turn. The short was presented in a special student showcase at the Atlanta Film Festival and has been recognized at film festivals across the country.
Crucius teamed up with childhood friend and longtime partner Ryan Regan for the first film from their production company Dead Pixel Cinema to create “Charley Tucson,” a character study loosely based on infamous Pennsylvania prison guard George Banks who shot 13 people to death in 1982, including his own family. It is a reflection of Crucius’ fascination with the psyches of those who live on the fringes of society and is taking the pair of filmmakers from Philadelphia to France for its debut at the festival.
