The Art Institute of Atlanta Forms Partnership with Georgia Track Club

(ATLANTA, GA January 2016) - When The Art Institute of Atlanta hosts the Georgia Track Club’s 2016 Rio Champions Reception on January 26, it will be just one aspect of a partnership forged by Graphic Design Chair Vickey Bolling. The partnership started when Josh Glass, founder of Georgia Track Club (GTC), approached her about becoming a board member. She was honored and readily accepted. Bolling is deeply committed to doing community service work and logged in excess of 200 hours in 2015 for the Shepherd Center—assisting patients with brain and spinal injuries, the Atlanta Track Club as running coach for their training programs, and the Georgia Track Club as a board member and liaison between GTC and The Art Institute of Atlanta.
Bolling could easily see the opportunities that working with the Georgia Track Club would afford her students. They would work with elite athletes and Olympians on projects such as photo shoots, graphic design, audio and video production, web design, fashion, culinary and general education. She also saw this as a way for the campus to give back to the community.
One example of this collaboration is the Art Direction class, where students worked in teams to produce advertising, branding style guides, and other needed content for GTC. The Art Institute of Atlanta provided the students with GTC’s design needs, along with all of the content necessary to produce professional quality work. Several of the Olympians came into the class and spoke to the students at both midterm and final benchmarks. The students were extremely excited about the opportunity to work on a real world project and to be a part of community service that benefitted an organization about which they cared and with which they wanted to be associated.
The Art Direction class had three teams that each presented final design concepts to several GTC board members, Olympians and alumni, in June 2015. These concepts consisted of the following; refined mission statement, logo improvement recommendations, branding strategies, a simplified style guide sheet, business card and stationery designs, and guerrilla advertising campaigns. It was a monumental body of work produced in 10 weeks.
GTC asked Jordan Rhodes, a student in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic & Web Design degree program, to intern with the organization. Jordan has produced the final style guide manual, print collateral, a multitude of presentation pitches, social media content and event posters. Digital Photography students have also had the opportunity to photograph both Hazel Clark (3X Olympian, 2 Olympic trials champion, 7 time national champion middle-distance runner) and Maya Pressley (High Jumper Olympic Hopeful and USA team member) .
