The Art Institute of Atlanta announces its sponsorship of the Atlanta Film Festival + Creative Conference, scheduled for April 22 – May 2, 2021. The festival, now in its 45th year, is described as the southeast’s preeminent celebration of cinema and the flagship production of the Atlanta Film Society.

Over 7,000 films were submitted for inclusion in the festival, with approximately 150 chosen to be showcased. The event will include drive-in and virtual screenings as well as programming. And because of the ongoing pandemic, the Atlanta Film Festival will serve as one of the satellite screening sites for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. The 12 Sundance films will play at the Plaza Theatre and Dad’s Garage Drive-In.

The Art Institute of Atlanta’s sponsorship of this event demonstrates the school’s ongoing commitment to cultivating the arts in Atlanta. The school offers both an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Digital Filmmaking & Video Production—with courses that include Acting & Directing, Editing, and Scriptwriting. Both programs are designed to prepare students to pursue work in the video/film industry.

Potential jobs in this field include everything from producers to video editors, lighting techs, and camera operators. Each of these skills is necessary to create a finished film project, like those on display at the Atlanta Film Festival + Creative Conference.

Students at The Art Institute of Atlanta are given real-world opportunities to build their skills through hands-on projects and internships. The school also hosts its own Virtual Student Film Festival to showcase student talent. In 2020, the fall film festival was hosted by FilmFreeway, the industry-leading platform used by over 150 Academy Award/BAFTA accredited festivals.

For film lovers, the Atlanta Film Festival + Creative Conference is an event not to be missed. And for those who hope to make films in the future, an education at The Art Institute of Atlanta can be the first step toward making a mark in the industry.
