Students from The Art Institute of Atlanta Learn While Competing in Bloomingdale’s Design Challenge
July 25, 2016
Atlanta, GA, July 5, 2016 – The result of a creative showdown between metro Atlanta fashion and Interior Design students will be revealed at Bloomingdale’s Lenox Square on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. The upscale retailer is giving students from The Art Institute of Atlanta full artistic control to design event space and retail concepts for the store. The young designers are presenting colorful and vibrant story boards featuring their blueprints and artistic renderings for several retail concepts including a contemporary women’s fashion line, luxury fitting rooms and an in-store event space.
The class project is a part of a community partnership between The Art Institute of Atlanta and Bloomingdale’s Lenox Square to help local students gain experience designing retail space by translating a specific client’s needs into a cohesive idea backed that will resonate with shoppers.
Several disciplines were part of this inaugural collaboration. Fashion Design students partnered with the visual merchandising team at Bloomingdale’s Lenox to develop concept lines for Bloomingdale’s contemporary department, aimed at the millennial woman. The Interior Design department worked with public relations to redesign the store’s common area used for charity events and customer hospitality. Finally, Interior Design students worked with the general manager to re-conceptualize the fitting rooms in two of the primary ready to wear departments, integrating art and high quality graphics to transform the customer experience.
Bloomingdale’s will celebrate the results of the design challenge by hosting a reception on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm. Guests will be able to eat, drink and vote on their favorite designs and give students feedback from the customer’s point of view. The event will take place in The New View on Level 2 of the Lenox Square store..
