Develops Construction Drawings to Communicate Design Intent

Lauretta Williams is a Revit specialist for Cortland Partners in Atlanta, Georgia. She develops construction drawings to communicate design intent from the interior design team. A typical day involves going over her schedule to check due dates on current projects, then diving into her workload.

She admits that the job is challenging—and that she needs to stay on top of technology. “We are working on standardizing our process. Within Revit, we need to change and adjust formats. I took some time to learn more about the program to make it do what I needed it to.”

Lauretta adds that she “brings color to the office” by her attire and creative attitude. “I am also very organized and help to keep my team just as organized.”

Lauretta, who in 2016 earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from The Art Institute of Atlanta, says that her education taught her the language of designers, standards of construction documents, and how things need to look for construction communication. She advises current students to take breaks to keep things fresh. And she emphasizes the importance of staying ahead of the tech curve. “You need to learn more and more about the programs. Soon, we will be more involved in the full design process, along with the interior designers.”
