Austin, TX, the "Live Music Capital of the World," is the 11th largest city in the United States—and one of the country's fastest growing areas. From 2011-2012, over 25,000 new residents moved into the Austin region, earning it the title of "Boomtown" from Bloomberg.com. Today, 1.84 million people call the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area home.
Named Texas' capital city in 1839, today's Austin is a center for government, education, business, and technology. Apple, eBay, Google, IBM, Intel, Texas Instruments, and Whole Foods Market are just some of the Fortune 500 companies that are located in the region—drawn in by the region's business-friendly atmosphere, youthful energy, and mild climate.
Austin's South by Southwest Festival scene is perhaps its most well-known creative event, featuring music, film, conferences, and emerging technology. The festival takes place each spring and has a huge economic impact on the region.
Austin City Limits, the longest-running music show on TV, is taped at the city's Moody Theater. Many other music festivals occur throughout the year. Film buffs enjoy the city's Austin Film Festival, while theater buffs take in shows at the Zachary Scott Theatre Center, The Paramount Theatre, and The Long Center for the Performing Arts.
Located along the Colorado River, Austin boasts three lakes within the city. Mount Bonnell, a 780 foot high natural limestone formation that overlooks Lake Austin, is a popular visitor destination. In 2004, the region was honored with a Gold Medal Award from the National Recreation and Parks Association for its outdoor venues. Bike trails, disc golf, minor-league sports, and Formula One racing keep sports enthusiasts busy throughout the year.
The mission of The Art Institute of Houston and its branch campuses, The Art Institute of Houston-North, The Art Institute of Austin, and The Art Institute of San Antonio, is to provide a quality, collaborative academic environment for individuals seeking creative careers through higher education. As a private, multi-campus college, our bachelor degrees, associate degrees, and diploma programs are competency based, incorporating traditional liberal arts, professional education, and management level competencies with hands-on instruction. Faculty use learning-centered methodology to prepare students for entry-level positions in the design, media, fashion, and culinary arts fields as well as lifelong learning.

Now in its sixth year, The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, helps to prepare students for creative careers in design, fashion, media arts, and culinary arts. Over 1,300 students are currently enrolled at the school.
Located near the Highway 45 loop, The Art Institute of Austin is a 70,000 sq. ft. facility filled with industry-relevant equipment that provides real world training—helping students to transition from the classroom to the workforce.
The Art Institute of Austin offers students industry-relevant technology in its nine computer labs that include Macbook Pro laptops and a full range of production and editing software. The school also has two photography studios, a digital print lab, a broadcast station studio and control room, mixing suite, and green screen technology. Fashion students learn to sew in sewing labs complete with sewing machines, while culinary students have the opportunity to cook and learn inside of professional kitchens.
Student organizations help to build personal and professional relationships. At The Art Institute of Austin, students may join AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts), the Interior Design Club, the Fashion Club, and The Film Society. And when students are ready to relax, many return home to one of the school's two residence areas: The Orchard and The Enclave—after taking part in outdoor concerts, leadership meetings, and other social gatherings.
Other opportunities to grow creatively include an art gallery, student lounge, media resource center, printing center, and the professional kitchens at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Austin—home to the student-run restaurant, Ology.
It is with great pride that I welcome you to The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, and introduce myself as its new President. The extraordinary students of this school comprise a creative community befitting the remarkable city it inhabits.
In knowing how we got here, my goal is simple: Administer a school that educates, develops, and enriches sought-after, professional, and creative graduates through practical, career-oriented education. We prepare our students for real life experiences as they learn from the best instructors with industry-relevant and program-specific technology.
During my tenure with The Art Institutes system of schools, I have never ceased to be amazed by the power of the creative mind. The potential carried in each and every student is infinite; it is my job to help these students realize their potential and find an inspiring career. You will find that experiences here at The Art Institute of Austin are unique.
Our approach is personal, and every student here has a voice. Our classes have smaller student-to-instructor ratios to ensure a more one-on-one classroom experience. We have many resources on campus for our students to learn outside the classroom, discover career and internship possibilities and seek out likeminded students through clubs and campus events.
At The Art Institute of Austin, our focus is the application of skills as well as the theory behind them; our graduates are ready to start their careers from day one because they know what the industry demands. Our students are from all over the United States, but they come here with a single purpose: to let their drive, hard work, and talent guide their future.

The Art Institute of Austin
