Austin Culinary Students Raise Funds for Austin Diaper Bank

Culinary students at The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, were recently presented with the challenge of developing a fundraising dinner event to benefit a local non-profit organization. On Friday, November 18, 2016, the students teamed up with the Austin Diaper Bank to host a multi-course dinner for 30 guests. The challenge was a part of the students’ course curriculum and included establishing a theme with a corresponding original menu, creating and implementing a marketing plan, preparing a master budget, anticipating staffing needs, and executeing a flawless dining experience for their guests.
Seven students worked o the project, which was based on the theme of “Rustic Autumn.” The seated dinner included a cocktail hour with passed hors’dourves and a presentation by Austin Diaper Bank Executive Director, Beverly Hamilton. The menu included a Roasted Butternut Squash soup, Apple Pork Chops with Braised Kale and Honey Glazed Carrots, and a Whipped Pumpkin Mousse for dessert. The successful event the Austin Diaper Bank to raise funds for the holiday season.
