April 3, 2018
Steven Koss, a student in the Bachelor of Science in Culinary Management program at non-profit The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, has won the honor to participate in the Meal Through the Arts, a culinary competition to support No Kid Hungry in its fight to end childhood hunger.
Koss’s Shrimp Toast Benedict was selected as a regional winner in the Canapé category of the competition. Koss will receive an expenses-paid trip to Atlanta where, on April 12, he will join 11 peers from Art Institutes locations across the country to cook for a panel of celebrity judges and a live audience at the Meal Through the Arts event.
The event will be hosted by actor Jaleel White and judged by Executive Chef Ito Fuyuhiko, Chef Jamika Pessoa and Certified Master Chef Daryl L. Shular.
The winning student from each of four categories (canapés, salads, entrées, and desserts) will earn a $5,000 tuition scholarship to support their culinary education. Their winning recipes will create an exclusive four-course meal to be served at Art Institutes student-run restaurants across the country the week of May 14 – 18. For every meal purchased during that time, The Art Institutes will make a donation to No Kid Hungry.
