By: The Art Institutes

October 16, 2015

(Austin, October 2015)  October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and to help raise awareness, The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston has partnered with the Survive2Thrive Foundation to create purple evening gowns designed by fashion students that will be modeled during the MUSE Austin live concert on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the One World Theatre in Austin, Texas.

MUSE Austin is a live concert featuring some of Austin’s best musicians, performing their original pieces with a full band and orchestra. During the concert, survivors of domestic violence will be showcased in a short video about their new lives without violence and they will serve as the models for the fashion component of the evening. Survivors will be modeling Domestic Violence Purple evening gowns designed by students of The Art Institute during each of the songs being performed.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the “Day of Unity” in October 1981 and was conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect domestic violence advocates across the country, at a local, state, and national level.
