From Game Art & Design to Visual & Game Programming, Art Institutes alumni have long played key roles in creating some of the industry’s most popular games. Now, The Art Institutes is teaming up with South by Southwest (SXSW) to sponsor the first-ever annual SXSW Gaming Student Showcase, so that we can help to shine a light on the future stars of the gaming industry.

With entries submitted by top educational programs and students around the world, the Student Showcase will highlight the best of the best of student work. After testing each game submission, SXSW Gaming staff chose 10 finalists to be featured at the inaugural Student Showcase. Among those finalists is From Ashes, a PC game created by five students at The Art Institute of Phoenix. You can watch the full trailer below. From Ashes is a Player vs. Player focused Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game with four playable champions, each with a unique set of abilities. In addition to playing From Ashes at the Student Showcase, SXSW attendees will also be able to check out even more student-made games at The Art Institutes booth.

Taking place March 16-18 in the Austin Convention Center in Texas, the 2017 SXSW Gaming Expo brings together the general public and gaming industry for one unforgettable experience, headlined by world-class, star-studded panels, demos, meetups, and much more. We’re thrilled for the Student Showcase—and for our students’ work—to be part of this huge industry event.
