Two culinary students working toward an Associate of Applied Science in Baking & Pastry at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, earned medals in the “That Takes the Cake!” competition.

The competition, hosted by Capital Confectioners, is the largest cake competition in central Texas. Kourtney Viktora was awarded the silver medal in the novelty division and Rachel Lange earned a bronze medal in the same category.

Kourtney created a purple cake with lace, while Rachel’s cake was blue and featured yellow flowers. Their fellow students, also working toward an Associate of Applied Science in Baking & Pastry, entered a Starry Night cake (Cynthia Hernandez), an anchor cake (Katherine Kelley) and a watercolor cake (Megan Tinch).

Capital Confectioners, a greater Austin Cake Club and Non-Profit organization, was formed to provide people who are interested in sugar arts the opportunity to share and network with others who have similar interests.

The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, is one of The Art Institutes, a system of private, non-profit schools throughout the United States.
