Was there a defining moment when you knew you were destined to become a creative professional?

For me, it’s always been that way.

How do you weave your professional background into the classroom experience?

I share every aspect of my freelance career with my students—from client communication to estimates to invoicing.

What class assignment exemplifies your approach to teaching and mentoring?

I often have students write a proposal for what they want to accomplish in a particular class. Then I give them the freedom to pursue those goals.

How does collaboration contribute to students’ success—particularly when students from various programs work together?

Every commercial assignment is a collaboration between vendor and client. Collaboration between departments is just one way students can learn that practice.

What’s the most important thing you impart to students to help them succeed in class and the real world?

Critical thinking is the most important key to success.
