The traits you have as a student are the same ones you'll have in the workplace. Ron Smith , Culinary Instructor , The Art Institute of Charlotte, a branch of Miami International University of Art & Design
Was there a defining moment when you knew you were destined to become a creative professional?
It all started from cooking Sunday family meals with my grandfather.
How do you weave your professional background into the classroom experience?
I share real-life examples of some of the things I encountered in my 20 years working in the industry to give students a sense of what it’s like, and to put the things they learn in class into context.
What’s the most important thing you impart to students to help them succeed in class and the real world?
I’m a true believer that the traits you have as a student are the same ones you’ll have in the workplace. Students must come to class and be prepared to succeed in my classes—just as they must do in the real world.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I love sharing my knowledge with future culinarians.
