Chicago Alum Greg Wade Nominated for James Beard Foundation Award
Greg Wade, who in 2009 earned an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts from The Illinois Institute of Art—Chicago, was recently nominated for a prestigious James Beard Foundation Award. Wade was nominated in the category of Outstanding Baker. The award celebrates a chef or baker who prepares breads, pastries or desserts in a retail bakery, and who serves as a national standard-bearer of excellence. The winner must have at least five years of experience as a baker or pastry chef for at least five years.
Wade works at Publican Quality Bread in Chicago and is a first-time nominee for the award. The 2017 winners will be announced at a gala event set for May 1 at Chicago's Lyric Opera House. Actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson from ABC’s award-winning show "Modern Family" will host the event.
