The Art Institute of Dallas, a branch of Miami International University of Art & Design, recently participated in the third annual Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute Chef Cookoff, a fun and free community event designed to raise awareness around the importance of a healthy diet and nutrition.

With this year's theme of Frugal Feasting for Four, students and professional chefs used their skills to create a healthy family meal using just $8 worth of ingredients. Richard Chamberlain of Chamberlain’s Steak and Chophouse; Tiffany Derry, a fan favorite from Bravo’s Top Chef; and Beth Rankin, top local food reporter, were on hand to judge each chef for their ability to rise to the challenge of creating nutritious, tasty meals on such a tight budget.

Throughout the event, The Art Institute of Dallas Culinary Instructor Chef Steven Pilat hosted a live knife skills demonstration in front of a packed crowd.

The event was held on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
