(Dallas, October 2015) The Business Council for the Arts in Dallas hosted On My Own Time (OMOT), an annual art competition which features artistic talents of business professionals throughout the region. OMOT celebrates the art that people in the Dallas business community create outside of working hours.  The event was held at the AT&T Performing Arts Center on Friday, Oct. 2.

Anne Perry, instructor at The Art Institute of Dallas, a campus of South University, presented several works of art to the audience at the event.  She has published various works, from poetry to fiction, creative non-fiction and biography, and has taught Creative Writing at The Art Institute of Dallas. She was selected to read three different non-fiction works to a live audience at the AT&T performing Arts Center in the Dallas Arts District.

Last year, Anne won awards in four categories of the On My Own Time competition and read the works at the Winspear Opera House. This year she was awarded in three categories and read “Queen of an Island: Ruby Collier Thomas” – 2nd Place in Creative Non-Fiction, a piece about her maternal grandmother, an extraordinary woman who founded "Eden Isle" with her grandfather in Arkansas; "Morilla and the Music Makers” – 2nd Place in Fictional Short Story, a chapter from her book for young readers about a family of moles. Anne sang a song during the reading and read a poem, “Amnesia for Your Longing,” which won 1st Place in Open Verse Poetry.

Anne also had several pieces in the visual art OMOT competition, one of which won first prize and went to NorthPark Mall. This was a fused glass piece called "If Only Art Were Everywhere."
