For the 11th year, the Cinema Guild film club held The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale students’ film festival - CineFest. This year the festival returned to the campus where student filmmakers from the Media Arts program competed in an exciting competition. Three categories where judged - Narrative & Documentary - Business Promotion & Commercials - Animation, Effects & Creative Films. Watch the entire event here.

With over 60 entries, 18 films were selected by the four Ai Fort Lauderdale alumni judges as finalists. Students could submit films that were class assignments, portfolios or freelance work produced during the 2016 and 2017 school years. The audience enjoyed over 75 minutes of professionally crafted commercials, music videos, animations, content marketing promotions, documentaries and narrative shorts.

The event kicked off with a Red Carpet and refreshment hour at 6pm on Friday, December 1, 2017. Soon after the crowd entered the campus theater and watched the finalists. Awards were presented throughout the night and during the finale the crowd got to vote for their favorite film through an interactive website.

Category winners included Larkland "Alex" Burton, Ingrid Da Silva, Kris Rodriguez, Mariana Lopez-Fonseca, Gio Aramendiz, and Juan "Wonka" Hernandez, students from the Bachelor of Science Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program. They received engraved trophies with Alex, Ingrid, and Kris walking away with the Audience Favorite Award of the night—the Cinema Guild Muse statuette.

The Cinema Guild president, Santi Pineda, and vice president, Victoria Arias, presented special recognition awards to Alumni Board members Brittany Mitzan, an Associate of Science in Fashion Design graduate from 2015 and Ernesto Diaz, a 2017 graduate from the Bachelor of Science Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program who were instrumental in the success of CineFest 2016.

The event was sponsored by Tartarus Creative Brian Lab with support from several local businesses and The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Cinema Guild faculty advisor Kyle Farley oversaw the production of the awards show and edited the final awards presentation. The Cinema Guild club members hosted the event, decorated the campus and ran concessions. Thanks to everyone who helped make CineFest 2017 a great success.
