Fort Lauderdale Students Volunteer for Winterfest White Party
December 20, 2016
Fort Lauderdale’s Winterfest White Party is the inaugural event in Winterfest’s holiday spectacular, with events running from the end of October through December 10, 2016.
Students and faculty from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale traveled to the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa for the kick off party, an exclusive event for sponsors, media partners, and select Winterfest guests. The evening featured musical performances and highlighted the theme “Comics and Cartoons - Rockin’ the Night Away.”
Culinary students, under the supervision of Chef instructor Malka Espinel, served Honey Lavender Tortes to the more than 450 guests in attendance. Additionally, fashion students, supervised by faculty member Chrisa Tatakis, hosted a fashion show featuring super hero-inspired fashion designs.
Students will also be involved in the Winterfest Boat Parade on December 10, 2016, covering the event on social media and photographing both aboard the vessels and along the parade route. The Winterfest Boat Parade, now in its 45th year, has grown to become the 7th largest spectator event in the United States—it’s the largest one-day spectator event in Florida.
The parade includes 100 boats, covering 12 miles of the Intercostal waterway. The Winterfest Boat Parade is considered one of the top 20 parades in the world and is colloquially known as “The Greatest Show on H2O.”
